Jim Post (2:45 pm) – will be honored by the Woodstock Folk Festival with its Sixth Annual Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his work as a performer, songwriter, and storyteller. Galena-based Jim Post is an Illinois treasure. The Washington Post called Jim “a one man tour de force – part musical, part drama and thoroughly entertaining.” Jim has over 20 albums and numerous books for children and adults. He does extensive work in the schools and he has produced a revolutionary reading program: a complete musical, phonemic reading readiness curriculum. Those in the Woodstock area (and beyond!) will remember his annual holiday shows at the Woodstock Opera House. He has toured the country with Mark Twain and Laughing River. The Smithsonian has said, “Post’s depiction of Mark Twain is nothing less than brilliant, and each sentence and song is a gem . . . nothing but kudos from our audience members of all ages. . . . This is a show that should be on Broadway.” The Chicago Sun Times said, “Mark Twain and the Laughing River is a rousing and affectionate work that looks at the river through the eyes of the man that loved it so much he took his pen name from riverboat lingo. . . . The mighty Mississippi is the heartbeat of the land, Post reminds us, and by the end of this ideal family show your heart should be beating a little stronger too.” The Chicago Tribune called it “a perfect show.”
Jim’s 1969 song “Reach Out In the Darkness” was featured in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Jim has won an American Library Award and a Parent’s Gold Choice Award for his children’s recordings. His award-winning CD, Alphabet Songs, has an original song for every letter in the alphabet.
The Woodstock Folk Festival recognizes Jim Post for his contributions to music and to education. This veteran singer has entertained in every musical style: reggae, jazz, rock, folk, rhythm and blues, and marches.
