Joel Mabus

Joel Mabus

Appearing on the Main Stage at 12:20 p.m.

A mainstay on the folk circuit for the past 30 years, Joel Mabus has 20 albums to his credit. He artfully and seamlessly blends both the traditional and the original, by turns applying new interpretive twists to old ballads, or writing new songs with a 21st Century perspective that sound like they've been handed down from generations past.

Many of his songs have been covered by others and have been published in Sing Out! magazine. He has taught guitar and fiddled at countless dance camps. Guitarists worldwide use the book Parlor Guitar to learn Joel's arrangements of early 20th Century classics. He was one of the first members of Folk Alliance when it formed in 1990. Joel tours widely, including performances at the Boston, Kerrville, Philadelphia, and Winnipeg Folk Festivals, as well as major folk venues such as The Ark, Freight and Salvage, The Old Town School of Folk Music, and Passim. He's been featured on nationally syndicated radio programs such as “Folkstage,” “A Prairie Home Companion,” and “River City Folk.” His latest release, No Worries Now…, which features all-new originals, was released in the fall of 2009. Chris Reitz of "Musichound Folk" said, “It's hard to imagine another artist on the folk scene who combines the same concise, deceptively understated, lyrical insight and sometimes devastating wit with such world-class instrumental prowess.”
