Sons of the Never Wrong

Sons of the Never Wrong

Appearing on the Main Stage at 5:15 p.m.

For over 18 years the Sons of the Never Wrong (Bruce Roper, Deborah Lader, and Sue Demel), the decidedly eclectic folk trio from Chicago, has been combining influences of folk, jazz, pop, and rock to share their original “turbo-charged folk music” with a cult-like national following. Serving their unique take on three-part harmony on a base of witty, whimsical songs, their style springs from a tradition you'd swear you've heard… but this clearly is not your grandpop's folk music.

Bruce Roper is a brilliant, prolific writer. His songs feel like they were written by a wise old poet yet sung by a child. A gift for melancholy heartbreak with a wink and a nod, he makes things that are hard to say easy to hear. Deborah Lader is a skilled mult-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, slide banjo) with a special gift for songwriting and an affinity for vocal harmony. Deb is also a nationally recognized visual artist. Sue Demel explodes the pre-conceived notions of harmony signing with her scatting, chanting, weaving and arranging. She's a seasoned back-up vocalist, and her body of work as a songwriter achieves a rare peace between the boundaries of love and redemption. They have played at many festivals including the Kerrville and Clearwater Folk Festivals, as well as notable venues such as the Old Town School of Folk Music, the Kennedy Center, Schuba's, the Birchmere, and Passim.
